Who We Help

Eligible Candidates

The Mesothelioma.com Scholarship extends support to students whose lives have been affected by any type of cancer, not limited to mesothelioma. Eligible candidates include:

1. Those who have faced their own cancer diagnosis, past or present.
2. Individuals with a parent, sibling, immediate family member, or close friend battling or having battled cancer.

We recognize the emotional, mental, and financial strain that cancer can impose, and our scholarship aims to assist those affected on their educational journey.

Scholarship History

In Honor of Heather Von St. James

The inception of the Mesothelioma.com Scholarship dates back to 2015, created in honor of mesothelioma survivor and advocate, Heather Von St. James. Heather and her husband Cameron, inspired by their own experience, embarked on a mission to support education for individuals facing adversity due to cancer.

Heather shares her perspective, “When I got sick, our world crumbled. Cameron, my husband, knew he had to get his degree to do better for our family. Balancing family, jobs, and school is challenging, but the rewards are numerous. This scholarship can offer a little extra help in times of need.”

Application Requirements

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an accredited U.S. university, community college, junior college, or graduate degree program. Additionally, they should be U.S. citizens in academic “good standing” with a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Step 2: Write an Essay About Your Cancer Experience

Submit a written essay (500 – 1,000 words) or a video submission (4 – 5 minutes) addressing questions about how cancer has impacted your life, shaped your goals, and what this scholarship means to you.

Step 3: Gather Additional Documents

• Unofficial academic transcript
• Proof of enrollment
• One letter of recommendation (LOR)
• Optional document detailing honors and volunteer work

Step 4: Format and Submit Application

Use the application form on our website to submit your application in PDF format with specific naming conventions.

Notification
